Rajasthan will care for its elephants: Raje

Jaipur - Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, on a 15-day tour of Britain and the US, has promised that the states pachyderms would be properly cared for in an elephant village at Amber near here.

Raje made the assurance Tuesday at a charity show organised by Elephant Family, an NGO in London that works for the welfare of Asian elephants, as also in Rajasthan, reports reaching here Wednesday said.

Elephant keepers would be properly trained to look after the pachyderms in the proposed Hathi Gaon or elephant village on the Delhi highway, said Raje, who was the guest of Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, both of whom are known as elephant lovers.

She said comprehensive steps, including constitution of the Elephant Welfare Society, had been taken for the welfare of elephants in Rajasthan.
