School enrollment drive fails in its objectives

Filed under:

Jaipur - Shala Praveshotsava, the school enrollment drive meant to achieve hundred percent admission of children between the ages of 6-14 in primary schools has failed to achieve its objectives in parts of Rajasthan.

These findings have been made by Pria, an international NGO, working to strengthen the institution of local self-governance, through a study conducted in the state.

During the study it was observed that the school development management committees (SDMC) that are constituted at the school level, were unable to make any significant contribution in the campaign.

They were not involved even in the whole planning process of the campaign.

The study further revealed that that the participation of women members of SDMC was poor as they were totally unaware about the drive. Similarly, in the absence of role and responsibility, the standing committees of village panchayats on education have kept themselves away from the crusade.
