ICC denies reports on costing of fourth Champions Trophy venue
The ICC today denied reports that the BCCI had negotiated a reduction in the cost of a fourth venue for this years ICC champions trophy from USD one million to US$200,000.
The world body said the larger figure was arrived at on the basis of an itinerary requested by the Indian Cricket Board that would have meant the hire of an extra broadcasting unit to provide television coverage.
However, that cost was reduced to approximately USD 200,000 when the ICC, taking into account BCCI wishes, revised the schedule and removed the need for that extra unit.
The BCCI accepted that proposal and so any suggestion that it was the BCCI that scaled down the amount it would have to pay is incorrect, ICC said in a press release.
The ICCs executive board agreed to BCCIs request to increase the number of venues used for the tournament from three to four on the basis that the host body would cover the cost of that fourth venue.
