Hotel room rates up 31% to Rs 5,859 in 2005-06

Average room rates (ARRs) of star hotels in eight major tourist spots in the country have climbed by 31 per cent in the financial year-ended March 2006 to Rs 5,859 compared with Rs 4,471 in the previous financial year, according to a latest report from HVS International, the hospitality consultancy firm.

The places include metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad Goa and Jaipur.

Bangalore witnessed the largest growth in room rates during the year at 41 per cent to Rs 11,100 compared with Rs 7,880 in the previous year.

In Mumbai, the growth was 30.17 per cent to Rs 6,450 compared with Rs 4,955 in the previous year.

Meanwhile, room rates in New Delhi during the period increased by 35.57 per cent to Rs 7,050 crore compared with Rs 5,200 crore last year.
