Protesting Sikhs go on rampage in Jaipur, two cops hurt

Jaipur : Hundreds of Sikhs indulged in stone pelting and ransacked a police station here to protest the trimming of a Sikh youths hair even as action was taken against two policemen for negligence in handling the case that has enraged the community.

The driver and guard of Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Shrotiya, who was monitoring the protests, were injured in the stone pelting. The windscreen of his vehicle was damaged, police said.

Protestors carrying swords demanded the arrest of the six accused and went on the rampage, ransacking the Gandhinagar Police Station, where the case was registered. They damaged some hand-drawn carts and forced traders to shut their shops, they said.

Shrotiya, the investigating officer for the case, told PTI that Station House Officer Ramdeo Singh and Sub-Inspector Rajkumar of Gandhinagar police station were withdrawn from active duty and sent to the police lines for negligence in dealing with the case.
