Jaipur medical students join anti-quota stir

Filed under:

Jaipur - At least 300 resident doctors of a hospital here along with some local groups joined the nationwide strike by medical students against the governments proposed reservation policy in higher educational institutions.

The doctors, the Arakshan Sanyukt Sangarsh Samiti and other groups took part in a sit-in at the Badi Chaupar area.

Over 300 resident doctors of the government-run Sawai Man Singh Hospital are on token strike in support of the stir by medical students in other parts of the country, a spokesperson of the resident doctors association of the hospital said.

The protesters also put up barricades at the Jawaharlal Nehru Road here and blocked traffic for over an hour in the afternoon.

Later, a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was submitted to the district collector here.

The administration has stepped up efforts to avert any untoward incident following the anti-quota stir. A violent clash between students favouring reservations and those protesting it could not be ruled out, said a police official.
