By Lokendra Singh, Jaipur: The recently imposed Value Added Tax (VAT) system increases the revenues of the Rajasthan Government. But for the people, running small Dhabas (or, roadside food joints) in Jaipur, it deprives them of their meagre earnings and puts a burden on the poor people who visit their shops for daily food.
Common men and Dhabha operators have vigorously opposed the newly introduced VAT on Dal-Roti (or, bread and butter) in Jaipur.
The new tax system-VAT-was introduced in Rajasthan on April 1. With this, the State Government has levied 12.5 per cent tax on all food items sold in all luxurious and non-luxurious restaurants and Dhabas.
