We have already started a survey in the city to identify chikungunya patients but no one has so far been traced, said chief medical officer D C Jain. However, there is panic in the city over the infection. Mistaking normal joint pains and viral fever for chikungunya, many people are visiting local hospitals.
Chikungunya is a relatively rare form of viral fever caused by an alphavirus that is spread by bites from the aedes aegypti mosquito. Its symptoms are fever and shivering, joint pain, headache, weakness and nausea. In Sirohi area of the state, 10 cases of chikungunya have already been identified by the hospital administration while in Jalore about five samples are under diagnosis.About 42 cases of chikungunya have been traced in Jodhpur region alone, in which over 600,000 people are reportedly suffering from fever. Some 630 patients approached six major hospitals in Jaipur on Saturday. All the patients complained of high fever.
NAFED, the designated agency for pulses import, so far received nearly 78 per cent of 49,300 tonne of contracted moong and urad varieties.

NAFED had contracted 49,300 metric tonne of two pulses varieties.
A total of 22,448 tonne of urad and 318 tonne of moong has been disposed of at an average price of Rs 33.06 and Rs 31.27 per kg respectively as on September 15.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Shiv Sena on Friday urged Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to cancel the allotment of land for building a Haj House in suburban Sanganer.
Raje should not lay the foundation for the proposed Haj House, state VHP chief Narpat Singh Shekhawat said in a statement.
Land for a Haj House has already been allocated at Karbala in the walled city and there is no need for a second such house as it would disturb communal harmony in Sanganer, an area with few Muslims residents, he said.

A Major was shot dead by a soldier he had rebuked at a forward post in Rajouri district.
